Group description
Both of us are final year students who are currently studying in Singapore Polytechnic, the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE), pursuing a Diploma in Environmental Management and Water Technology. Being outdoor land and water sport enthusiasts, we both spend a considerable amount of time interacting with our environment and we are thankful of having such clean facilities for us to enjoy our activities. Furthermore, being students involved in the environmental field, we are aware of the importance of taking care of what Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. We feel that every individual has a part to play, no matter how big or small one's contribution is. While our proposal may not seem much, we hope that a small idea like ours will be the start of creating a positive impact to the environment. This way, we can not only ensure the sustainability of the environment but also continue to have fun outdoors!

Project Description
Industrial discharge contains unwanted organic dyes such as Methylene Blue (MB). The current conventional treatment method to remove this dye effectively is by using granular activated carbon however its main drawback lies in its high energy cost. Several other low-cost adsorbent materials, which are also regarded as natural wastes by the society, were investigated in their removal efficiency of this dye and they showed promising results. Sewage sludge, another type of natural waste, is a natural by-product of the waste water treatment process, and it is reported to be the only waste in Singapore with a 0% recycling rate. Hence, the objectives of our project is to turn sludge into a potential value-added product by determining if heated dried sludge is capable of removing Methylene Blue in a water medium.
