The name of my group is "green sparkle" as mentioned before. My group consists of 2 Civil Engineering students (including me) and 1 Computer Engineering student. Two of us are from NUS year 1 while the other is in year 2.

Project description
We are looking into ways to improve Water Efficient Homes (WEH) programme by exploring the possibility of cheap mountable tap water sensor as an saving water kit. We found out that water wastage will still the common issue if the tap is turned on but without usage. i.e. washing of vegetables, washing hands. Tap water sensor can minimise the water loss through hand motion detection. That is to turn off the tap when no movement is detected. The tap water sensor we are going to achieve should be easy to installed, cheap to make and reliable in the long run.

Both of us are final year students who are currently studying in Singapore Polytechnic, the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE), pursuing a Diploma in Environmental Management and Water Technology. Being outdoor land and water sport enthusiasts, we both spend a considerable amount of time interacting with our environment and we are thankful of having such clean facilities for us to enjoy our activities. Furthermore, being students involved in the environmental field, we are aware of the importance of taking care of what Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. We feel that every individual has a part to play, no matter how big or small one's contribution is. While our proposal may not seem much, we hope that a small idea like ours will be the start of creating a positive impact to the environment. This way, we can not only ensure the sustainability of the environment but also continue to have fun outdoors!

Project Description
Industrial discharge contains unwanted organic dyes such as Methylene Blue (MB). The current conventional treatment method to remove this dye effectively is by using granular activated carbon however its main drawback lies in its high energy cost. Several other low-cost adsorbent materials, which are also regarded as natural wastes by the society, were investigated in their removal efficiency of this dye and they showed promising results. Sewage sludge, another type of natural waste, is a natural by-product of the waste water treatment process, and it is reported to be the only waste in Singapore with a 0% recycling rate. Hence, the objectives of our project is to turn sludge into a potential value-added product by determining if heated dried sludge is capable of removing Methylene Blue in a water medium.

Group Description
We are a group of passionate students keen to get involved with the environment and are eager to do our part in saving the earth resources. We are third year students currently pursuing Diploma in Environmental Management and Water Technology in Singapore Polytechnic and feel that it is the most important to start conserving now, rather than to regret in future. It has long been feared that human activity is causing massive destruction to the resources we have now. Despite increased efforts at conservation, it has not been enough and resources continues to deplete by the rate we are consuming now. We hope that by coming out with this little solution to reduce the water consumption and to decrease the uneccesary exposure chemical usage to users. We have a strong aspiration to leave behind a significant impact in Singapore's water management. We want to use the knowledge gained in school to solve problems in real life situation and this competition is a platform to showcase our ideas.

Our objective in this project will focus on reducing the chemical usage in swimming pools and looking into innovative new solution to input into water treatment and maintenance system in swimming pools.

The group of three are currently year three students from Singapore Polytechnic studying the diploma in Environmental Management and Water Technology.  Our course made us realise the water issues happening around the world and therefore we hope to provide a solution to these problems. Participating in this competition will allow us to gain a deeper understanding of water issues and solutions as well as meeting and exchanges ideas with people with the same interest.  Throughout the competition we will also be taking advice from our lecturer, Dr. Handojo.

Project Description
Rainwater harvesting for potable use is gaining more attention due to water scarcity. Rainwater appears to be clean, no smell and taste. However rainwater from rooftop contains various toxic dissolved metal ions. The conventional treatment using sand filtration system cannot remove metal ions. This project will propose an alternative solution which incorporates coffee residue sand mixed filtration. The products come with bottle and simple column and it will show some lab analysis showing the capability in removing copper ions. It shows a potential to offer clean water suitable for emergency situation or countries like ours that has minimum water resources.
